Now in my limited experience most of the wargamer created Websites on the web are there to show how clever the wargamers are, both in wargames and web design. This site is different, it just shows how appalling I am at both!My Wargaming talents are somewhat minimal (ask Paul, my NDBML Doubles partner), but I do enjoy the excitement a game generates, and I find the painting a good way of relaxing after a difficult day as a Manager in another one of the United Kingdom's declining Industries namely Steel. (Old hat I'm afraid, since then I have held the titles of Supply Chain Officer, Projects Officer and Production Shift Manager) For me to paint and use an army, I must have a genuine interest in it, not just that it may turn out to be a "Super army", according to the latest version of the rules. (some of you may detect an agricultural smell about now!) For me its the playing not the winning! (I'm sure!) not that it would make much difference to my game. I still retain some of my 25mm armies from the old WRG 6th edition days, but now I game with 15mm using WRG DBM rules, the armies I have at the moment are: Christian Nubian. (Cm (S) & Wb (F), you can't lose!) Two types of spontaneous troops that always get me into trouble, however this was my first 15 mm army and as such one of my favourites, with this army you can Morph it to Auxmite, Makkan and Early Nubian, and not forgetting a certain number of armies under DBR, but not an army for beginners to DBM like me!! Christian Nubian C in C, Bodyguard, Priest and Arab Vassal Umbrella carrier, out for a stroll
Dynastic Bedouin. (Huge army!, all that LH (O) and Ax (S), dip your bread) This army can morph into a myriad of other armies all of which allow me to be comprehensively thrashed in a variety of ways. This army and it's Morphs can give you nice regular Generals and troop types which are quite soothing after the brash irregular Nubians. The inspiration for this army can be blamed on Alan Patrick and Nik Gaukroger or more precisely their Websites and articles.
Southern Dynasty Chinese. (Reg. Kn (F), Reg. Bd (F) backed by Ps (O) and an Elephant, you can't miss!) This is a new army for me, only lost once but there again only played once!
Early Nubian. (Even bigger than Bedouin and all those Bw (O) with Wb (F) support, only an idiot can lose!) One trick pony army so I'm told, trouble is I'm still looking for the trick!, not strictly true as I have just beaten Colin Betts and him using a Patsy R*m*n army, admittedly the list he was using is the one that my regular doubles partner and I will be using this weekend.) Oh dear! sorry folks we were unable to get up to Newcastle so the results refer to the last league game at Leeds (See Result)
This army started off as a Morph of the Christian Nubians with the addition of more Archers & Javelin men. from the Museum Miniature Egyptian range. (excellent Nubian archer, trouble is there is only one pose available) I then decided to go the full hog and replace the Christian Nubians with Early Nubians (sad isn't it?). Lancashire Games have some very nice varieties of Nubian/Kushite archers which have filled that particular void. For more Early Nubian Images see Photo Album
Later Hungarians. (Reg. Kn (S), WWg (O), LH (F), Bd (O) and good Sp (O), you just can't fail!) you want to bet? this is me we are talking about. I must admit that I'm still painting and collecting the figures for this army so plenty of time for me to plan my own destruction, same with Early Carthaginians. enough said!
At the moment I'm taken with my Early Nubian army, it has only a few troop types and it takes a long time to die, just the kind of army to learn with and it also allows an impressive naval force with a wide selection of terrain just to add to it's attractiveness. (I'm sure)
